Marilyn Kite is a trailblazing lawyer and jurist who made history as the first woman to serve on the Wyoming Supreme Court and later as its first female Chief Justice. A University of Wyoming graduate, Kite earned her B.A. in 1970 and J.D. in 1974 before working as a senior assistant attorney general and with the law firm Holland & Hart.

Appointed to the Wyoming Supreme Court by Governor Jim Geringer in 2000, she served for 15 years, including as Chief Justice from 2010 to 2014. During her judicial career, she authored more than 500 opinions and championed court security, civics education, and expanded access to justice.

Since retiring from the bench in 2015, Kite has returned to Holland & Hart as counsel, focusing on environmental, energy, and natural resource law. She is also an avid horsewoman and a founder of the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt supporting the Wyoming Women’s Foundation.
