Matt Wells was born in the small town of Leah, Georgia on land that had been farmed by his family for generations. Growing up on family land that was under the constant threat of development lead Matt to attend the University of Georgia School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor cum laude. Matt concurrently attended the Odum School of Ecology and received a certificate in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development. Prior to joining the Stock Growers Land Trust Matt served as Program Director for the Chattahoochee Valley Land Trust and Director of Land Protection of Western Georgia for the Georgia Land Trust where he worked with farmers to protect the working farms and forestlands of Georgia.

He will be serving the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust as the Director of Conservation and will be handling Conservation Easement transactions from initial contact through closing.
Matt and his wife Lydia are recent transplants to the Cowboy State and have one daughter, Sosebee (20 months), and expect another daughter in late August. Matt is excited to assist the farmers and ranchers of the state to ensure that land remains available for productive agriculture, and for future generations of ranchers and farmers in the state of Wyoming.
